The drawing is based on a character created by Matt Doughty of Onell Design for his line of awesome action figures, Glyos System. It is Govurom, the insatiable cosmic-energy vampire baddie of the Glyos universe. I created this image for my good friend Dave Pappas, the owner of Pappysoup, a blog centered around his truly excellent writing skills. Dave manages to pull twist endings I would have never seen coming. I am a fan, and you should be too!
I tried something new with this image. I have never fully colored an image in Photoshop. I still haven't. I used Gimp, a free image editing software, to do the image manipulation. I have never had any training in either program, so I'm kinda teaching myself as I go along. Don't judge me too harshly, please?

The desire was all consuming. Nothing else mattered. It seemed the more he stole, the less he was satisfied. The rush when he fed...

A true masterpiece! I can't thank you enough for creating this wonderful art and allowing me to put it on my blog. Your kind words about my writing mean the world to me. You, sir, are a rare human being and deserve all the praise. My stories would be nothing without your incredible drawings to bring them to life!
That is an awesome piece. I have been trying to teach myself illustrator, but my brother has always used Gimp and I've been very impressed with what it can do.
Thanks guys! You make me blush!
Yeah... I like Gimp because it's free! I'm a cheapskate, remember? ;)
My budddy gave it to me on a flash drive and I've been learning the ins and outs for months now here and there... I finally just took the plunge on this one and kinda winged it.
I see stuff in it that probably needs fixing, but I guess practice makes something.
Thanks again!
Yeah, my designer buddy gave me a bootleg illustrator, and I had to give myself a crash course because I committed to four pieces of original artwork for a local business before I had even installed it (gotta make the bills though). So far, so good though, but I would like to try gimp if it's more user-friendly. Can you get gimp for a mac?

Hope that helps ya!

But seriously, thanks for discussing the breakdown of the piece. Maybe you could start doing more "Behind-the-scenes" posts more often...
That's a good idea, Roy. I had a couple real early on in my blogs... the Cthulhu piece for one. You gives me the good brain itches!
Yoinking the link as well ;)
Okay, I just have to let you know that I downloaded Gimp about two or three weeks ago. After playing with it this is what I have to say: You blow my mind! I don't know how you created what you did, but you are incredibly talented. I love seeing what you create.
Thanks, man! That's incredibly kind of you to say! I honestly don't even know half of what I'm doing, and I'm sure there are easier ways to do it, but the best way to learn is to just do it a LOT!!! Thanks again, man... Keep trying! You never know what you can do if you aren't willing to screw up now and again!
O_O Holy crap! This is gorgeous work dude! I has that classic comic-book style feel to it that I'm really digging. Freaking Ah-Maze-Ing. Keep drawing more stuff like this!
