The Snot Beasts are coming!

Check out oOMoSOo's second and final release of the Snot Beasts!!! These are roughly 1 inch tall hand cast resin figures with hand painted details. The first wave sold out like lightning, and I suspect the second will as well!

There are only 5 in this release, so it goes without saying that these won't last long!

Once again, for clarity's sake: The Kawaiiju figures are between 1.5 and 2 inches tall and are individually hand sculpted from polymer clay and painted with acrylic paint. Each figure is a totally unique, one-of-a-kind art piece. Each figure will come blind bagged with a hand-made package and a hand drawn art card. A randomly inserted "Golden Ticket" will allow one lucky customer to win the ultimate Kawaiiju figure, "Big Daddy." There are 30 figures in all. Each figure will cost $25 (plus a flat $5 shipping fee in the US and $10 elsewhere).

Trolling Around

I've had this piece since Christmas, but I haven't had a chance to snap some pics of it until today. In addition to a really freaky ceramic statue my friend Billy Parker gave me, he gave me a piece he made by hand.






In case you haven't seen the movie Cat's Eye, here's a little idea of what this critter is all about:

In this scene, a Troll (voiced by "Mr. Megatron" himself Frank Welker) attempts to steal the breath of a little girl (Drew Barrymore). A heroic cat named General must come to the rescue!



It's a freaky scene from a freaky movie. My nephews, Billy, and I all dug this movie when we were younger (we still do!), and the troll was always something that freaked us right out. We always wanted to see the troll made into a figure. I think there were some garage kits made, but they're usually pretty hard to find and expensive. Billy made me this troll statue, and I don't think I could be more impressed if the troll from the movie hopped out of my closet.

If I know Billy, he sat at his desk cramped over this thing for countless hours watching the DVD over and over trying to capture every detail-- the guy's a madman with his sculpting skills... it knocks me over thinking that he's only been sculpting for a couple of years now. The figural element of the statue stands about 4 inches tall, and the base stands about 6 or so inches tall. The bells really jingle and he has cobwebs all over him just like the character in the movie (when he makes his first appearance he steps out of a crack in the wall-- hence the piece of wall on the base of the statue). I'm so proud to have this little monster-- I've always been impressed with Billy's raw talent and am always glad to share it with others.

If anyone finds Billy's work as impressive as I do, keep an eye out on my Etsy account, as I'll be listing some statues Billy made over there in the next few weeks.

Think outside the plastic!!!

If you haven't heard of the controversy over Taco Bell's kids' meal toy, BellHedz, then you can catch up on it here. I'm not really concerned with the drama. What I'm concerned with is how cool these little guys look and how much fun it is to buy a toy styled after designer toys that doesn't cost designer toy prices (99 cents vs. 8 bucks). They're fun to paint too!!! Here's my custom BellHed! Someone on the October Toys forum called him "Maulhed," so I guess that's what I'll call him!

Part of the process of making really interesting customs is being able to see potential parts in production figures. I spend a LOT of time researching what figures are out, what they look like at all angles, and how much they cost.

GI JOE: The Rise of Cobra-La?

Couldn't resist making this guy. As much as people seem to hate the whole Cobra-La stuff from the old GI JOE animated movie, I always got a kick out of it as a kid. It was so out of whack with what I had come to expect out of GI JOE that it just knocked me for a loop. So I made Golobulus, the leader of the kingdom of Cobra-La:



I don't usually give my figures a glossy clear coat, but I wanted him to be extra slimey... ugggghhhh... it's kinda creepy seeing him in person.

Omnom part 2 and a new friend

So here are some update pics... it's kinda hard to tell, but he's much, much more smooth, and the recess in the mouth is much deeper. He also has a little buttcrack. I sculpted a little tush on him, but it really looked ridiculous sticking out like... well... a swollen little butt. So I kinda compromised and gave him a crack... the guys on the October Toys Forum were right: he needed it!
