Flea Market Finds

I went to flea market today (I needed to get out... I'm starting to grow to the house like coral) and found all this junk for 5 bucks!!!





I cannot wait to chop those Clone and Storm Troopers up for customs... WOOOOOOO!!!!!

The Doomsday has some scuffed up paint, but I'll just touch it up a bit... The guy is MASSIVE. He'll look great next to my animated Darkseid figure. I'm starting to build a little collection of guys who hate Superman. So weird.

Part Two:

Something Kreepy This Way Komes

On the October Toys Forum member Mad-Hatter's-Neverland asked us toy goons if we'd be willing to make some toy cars based on the "Kub Kar Kit," the Canadian version of the Pinewood Derby held for Boy Scouts. These kits have a chunk of wood, some stickers, 4 wheels and 4 nails with which to attach the wheels. It's a really simple kit that requires some creativity on the part of the kids to make into something fun and neat to goof around with.



The pieces are for an art show he's putting on for his Cub Scouts to encourage them to be creative and inventive. At the end of the show, all the pieces are being auctioned off with the proceeds going to help underprivileged kids afford scouting programs. Such a cool idea!!! I loved it as soon as i read about it!

So here's my little Kreeper! Yes-- there's actually a chunk of wood in there... somewhere...

Little Blue Bot

I've been looking back over the older posts in the Glyos blog and noticed something I had forgotten about: This crazy Exellis in Standard Pheyden's color scheme.



According to collector extraordinaire John Kent, this dude is super-rare, so, seeing as I'd probably never see a real one, I decided to make my own.

I like the Hybrid Sarvos chest design a lot, and I happened to have an extra one. Sooooo... now I have a fake Blue Exellis (not sure what his name should be... the standard Exellis scheme is totally different than Pheyden's, so that name doesn't apply) I painted an extra Eidrellim Exellis head I got in a Junk Pile set to match the standard scheme. I worked my butt off to match the exact color, but matching the standard blue is a tough nut to crack. In these pics the difference shows up like crazy, but in person it looks dead-on. I'm satisfied, so I guess it's ok.

Extra bonus: because he's based on the Sarvos chest, he can sport a spiffy little backpack! Weeee!

Godzilla gets his nails did.

Regular readers will recall that I recently purchased a bootleg Bandai Godzilla figure.



I was torn about the figure: the vinyl color and the paintjob were goofy and very "bootleggish," but the sculpt was exceptional. If it had a goofy looking sculpt, I would have kept it as is for the LOL factor. As it was, I couldn't stand to see such an awesome sculpt go withought a better paintjob. So... well... here ya go:






I tried my best to bring out the sculpt with some drybrushing and washes. I hope I did the Big G justice.[/quote]

Cardboard Creation

One of the best sites ever, Toy Break, is running a contest for the Large Martin toy from 3A toys, and all they require you do is submit an original robot made out of cardboard. I just turned in my entry and figured I'd post it here as well:







He stands a bit over 2 inches tall and has articulation in the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. I named him CBHG-5.5. Enjoy!

Think outside the plastic!!!

If you haven't heard of the controversy over Taco Bell's kids' meal toy, BellHedz, then you can catch up on it here. I'm not really concerned with the drama. What I'm concerned with is how cool these little guys look and how much fun it is to buy a toy styled after designer toys that doesn't cost designer toy prices (99 cents vs. 8 bucks). They're fun to paint too!!! Here's my custom BellHed! Someone on the October Toys forum called him "Maulhed," so I guess that's what I'll call him!

Part of the process of making really interesting customs is being able to see potential parts in production figures. I spend a LOT of time researching what figures are out, what they look like at all angles, and how much they cost.
